Spiritual Shelters are the small cell groups that form the families and bonds of the Norristown New Life Church. They are more than Bible Studies in that it is a place for the church members to become invested in one anothers lives.

About the Spiritual Shelters
“ Spiritual Shelters are the primary, relational, discipling groups in the congregation.”
“ Spiritual Shelters are a small group ministry of caring for and encouraging one another in the power of the Holy Spirit, studying the Scriptures and applying its teaching to daily living.” (Hebrews 10:24-25; Ephesians 4:16)
Spiritual Shelters also function as prayer cells for one another and for friends and/or neighbors, as caring home groups that will welcome and disciple outsiders.
Summary
- Relational sharing of gifts of the Holy Spirit, sharing of diversity of culture, sharing of ourselves and our understandings
- Discipling one another in Bible Study and practically applying the Scriptures to our lives and ministries
- Praying for one another , nurture and spiritual support, and evangelistic witness
Leadership
Pastors, elders, and/or designated Spiritual Shelter leaders provide leadership for a specific spiritual shelter and for the pastoral care and spiritual concerns of the members of that group. Spiritual Shelter leaders are trained by and are accountable to the pastoral team in the overall spiritual shelter ministry. Emphases, topics and themes can be determined and directed by the pastors and elders.
Frequency of Meeting
Considered a mid-week, weekly commitment, at least 2-3 times a month.
Related Ministries and Groups
1. Spiritual Shelters are not to be confused with specific ministry groups and each person’s participation in ministries like Children’s Church, Pentecost Worship Team, Trustees, Center4Youth, etc. In addition to a spiritual shelter commitment, each person is encouraged to serve the Lord and the church in a specific ministry group.
2. Spiritual Shelters are not meant to replace a biblical teaching ministry like adult Sunday School classes and training in the Scriptures. |
