Spiritual shelters are the primary, relational discipling groups in the congregation.  Every member of the congregation is called to participate regularly (2 or 3 times a month) in a small group ministry of caring for and encouraging one another in the power of the Holy Spirit, studying the Scriptures and applying its teaching to daily living (Hebrews 10:25; Ephesians 4:16).  Spiritual Shelters also function as prayer cells for friends, neighbors, the city of Norristown, and global missions. They are to be caring home groups that will welcome and disciple person who are not experiencing the love and closeness of God’s family.

Spiritual shelters are composed of several family units, single adults, men only, women only, or any combination thereof (10-12 persons).  Adult Sunday Bible classes and Wednesday night meetings at the church are part of the spiritual shelter ministry.  Spiritual shelters may choose to function in Spanish or English (or other languages) but will seek to integrate and unify the diverse ethnic and language groups in the congregation wherever possible.

The lay leaders of the Spiritual Shelters are chosen; receive careful training, and function under the supervision of the pastoral team.  The pastoral team will meet monthly with the leaders and apprentice leaders of the spiritual shelters for vision sharing, skill development, and planning.
